Everything you need to know before your visit

Appointments & Booking

How do I book an appointment at Kuilsriver Doctors?

The easiest way to book is to call us on 021 903 6830 during practice hours. You can also book an appointment online through our website. For patients travelling from Brackenfell, Kraaifontein, or Soneike, calling ahead before making the trip ensures there is a slot available for you.

Do you accept walk-in patients?

Walk-ins are welcome and will be seen when consulting capacity allows. Booking ahead is always recommended — it guarantees your time slot and avoids waiting. During busy periods, especially Monday mornings and the start of flu season, unscheduled patients may face a longer wait. A quick call to 021 903 6830 takes less than two minutes and saves the uncertainty.

Are you open on Saturdays?

Yes. Kuilsriver Doctors is open every Saturday from 8:00 to 12:00. Saturday morning appointments are popular, particularly for patients who cannot take weekday time off work. Book early in the week to secure a Saturday slot, as these fill quickly. The practice is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

What should I do if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Please call us on 021 903 6830 as soon as you know you cannot make your appointment. Cancelling with reasonable notice allows us to offer the slot to another patient. We understand that circumstances change, particularly for parents managing children's school schedules or patients depending on public transport along the Van Riebeeck Road corridor.

Services & Treatments

What medical services does Kuilsriver Doctors offer?

The practice provides a broad range of primary care services including acute illness consultations, chronic disease management (blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, cholesterol), paediatric care, women's health (including Pap smears and family planning), men's health, vaccinations, health screenings, occupational health assessments, pre-employment medicals, and driver's licence medicals. For a full overview, visit our services page.

Do you provide referrals to specialists?

Yes. When a condition requires specialist input beyond the scope of general practice, Dr Pedro and Dr Adams provide referrals to appropriate specialists. Common referral destinations include Tygerberg Hospital in Bellville (12 minutes from the practice) and Cape Gate Mediclinic in Brackenfell. Referral letters are prepared by the doctor at the time of consultation.

Can I get a chronic disease repeat prescription at the practice?

Yes. Chronic patients — including those managing diabetes (suikersiekte), high blood pressure (bloeddruk), asthma, thyroid conditions, and high cholesterol — can have repeat prescriptions issued at Kuilsriver Doctors. Chronic care patients are encouraged to book a regular review appointment rather than collecting scripts without a consultation, as this allows the doctor to monitor your condition properly over time.

Do you offer driver's licence medicals and pre-employment medicals?

Yes to both. Kuilsriver Doctors is on Van Riebeeck Road — the same street as the Kuilsriver Traffic Department — which makes completing your driver's licence medical (K407 form) and submitting your paperwork a single trip. We also issue pre-employment medical certificates and occupational health assessments in line with OHS Act requirements. Workers and employers from Blackheath Industrial, eight minutes away, regularly use the practice for these services.

Medical Aid & Payment

Which medical aid schemes do you accept?

Kuilsriver Doctors accepts most major medical aid schemes, including Discovery Health, Bonitas, Medihelp, Momentum Health, KeyCare, and Bestmed. If you are unsure whether your plan is accepted, call 021 903 6830 before your visit and we will confirm. Patients with hospital plans or basic savings plans should also call ahead to understand how their benefits apply to GP consultations.

Can I visit the practice if I don't have medical aid?

Yes. Private cash patients are welcome. Medical aid is not a requirement to be seen at Kuilsriver Doctors. Patients without medical aid pay practice consultation rates directly. If you are not sure what to expect to pay, call us on 021 903 6830 and we will provide a clear answer before your visit.

How much does a consultation cost?

Consultation fees vary depending on the nature of the visit — a standard acute consultation differs in cost from a chronic care review or an occupational health assessment. Rather than quoting a single figure that may not apply to your situation, we recommend calling 021 903 6830 to get accurate information for your specific type of visit. For medical aid patients, costs are typically billed directly to your scheme at practice rates.

Does the practice handle medical aid authorisations?

Medical aid authorisations for procedures that require them are handled by the practice on your behalf. For queries about specific procedures or cost estimates, contact us in advance. Cash patients with concerns about upfront payment are welcome to discuss their situation with our reception team.

About Our Practice

Where is Kuilsriver Doctors located and how do I find it?

The practice is at 33 Van Riebeeck Road, Kuilsriver, 7580. Van Riebeeck Road is Kuilsriver's main commercial street. We are close to the Kuilsriver Traffic Department and approximately five minutes from Zevenwacht Mall. Patients coming from the N1 or R300 interchange will find Van Riebeeck Road well-signposted. Google Maps directions for "Kuilsriver Doctors" will bring you directly to the building.

Is there parking at the practice?

Yes. Parking is available on-site and on the street adjacent to the practice on Van Riebeeck Road. The entrance and consulting area are accessible for patients with mobility aids and for parents with prams. If you have specific accessibility requirements, please mention this when booking.

Is the practice Afrikaans-friendly?

Yes. The practice serves a predominantly Afrikaans-speaking community and consultations can be conducted in Afrikaans. Many patients in Kuilsriver refer to their GP as their "huisdokter" — a term that carries a sense of trust and continuity that the practice genuinely aims to live up to. English-speaking patients are equally welcome.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes. Kuilsriver Doctors is accepting new patients from Kuilsriver, Soneike, Highbury Park, De Bron, Brackenfell, Zevenwacht, Scottsdene, and surrounding areas. To register as a new patient, call 021 903 6830 or visit the practice during opening hours. Bring a valid ID document and your medical aid card if applicable.

Emergency & After-Hours

What should I do if I have a medical emergency?

For a life-threatening emergency, call 10177 (Western Cape Emergency Medical Services) or 112 from a mobile phone immediately. Do not wait for a GP appointment. The nearest emergency department for patients in the Kuilsriver area is Tygerberg Hospital in Bellville, approximately 12 minutes from Van Riebeeck Road. Cape Gate Mediclinic in Brackenfell (10 minutes) also has emergency facilities for medical aid patients.

Who do I contact for after-hours medical advice?

Kuilsriver Doctors operates Monday to Friday 8:00–17:00 and Saturday 8:00–12:00. Outside these hours, the practice does not have an after-hours on-call line. For urgent but non-emergency medical queries outside practice hours, Netcare 911 (082 911) and Medicross 24-hour nurse lines provide telephonic guidance. For anything that cannot wait until the practice opens, proceed to the nearest emergency department.
